THE recent attack upon a Rabbi by a gang of youths is not a surprise to
me, nor to members of the orthodox Jewish community of Seven Sisters,
who have come to expect a gauntlet of spitting, name-calling and minor
shoving as they walk to Sabbath worship or family visits.

However, they are not the only victims. The large Polish community in
Seven Sisters has also been targeted.

The council is doing nothing and the only reason I can think of is that
they are terrified of acknowleging that the trouble comes almost
exclusively from African youths.

I have for many months been calling for extra warden or police patrols
to deter potential attackers and to whom residents could report
problems, especially on Friday nights and Saturdays when many of both
the Polish and Jewish residents are out on foot.

However, the Labour councillors pay little attention to the needs of
both of these undemanding communities.

The police notice board in Craven Park Road, appealing for witnesses to
the vicious and cowardly assault on a lone pedestrian (on a Friday
night, of course) by up to 15 young men, was almost inevitable.

Will the council now initiate procedures to stop something unimaginably
worse happening in the future?
